Overview

You have comfortably outlived several trends, a couple of governments, and most of your own patience. Your joints now provide a daily weather report, and you announce each new creak like breaking news. You remember when things were built to last, and you will explain this, unprompted and at length, to anyone within range. New technology feels like a personal insult, and you keep detailed notes on how the youth conduct themselves. You are not unhappy, you are simply and magnificently set in your ways. The world can either keep up or kindly get off your lawn.

Wait, is this based on anything?

Loosely, yes. Each answer leans on real psychology: how old you feel (subjective age), the way most people mellow with age (the maturity principle), and what we chase when time feels long versus short (socioemotional selectivity theory). The phrase mental age itself comes from Alfred Binet’s early intelligence work. We then mash it all into one cheerful verdict that is absolutely not a diagnosis.
